Pallet rack installation requires an experienced material handling crew with the proper tools and the right equipment. The pallet rack installation should follow the design layout, which is prepared in advance by the engineering department.

Building Permits

C&SS can assist our customers through the permitting process and help them obtain their building permits for pallet racks in California. Generally, building permits are required for the following type of pallet racks (depending on the code requirements for individual cities, which may vary):

-Pallet racks greater than 6' above ground.

-Pallet racks greater than 8' above ground shall be provided with structural calcs.

-Pallet racks where the storage area exceeds 500 square feet and greater than 12' above ground shall be provided with structural calcs and a Fire Department 'High Pile Stock Inventory' permit and approval.

Note: The overall height for high-pile pallet racks is taken from the ground to "top of storage". Regardless wether the rack height is less than 12' but the proposed storage will be 12' or higher, a Fire Department permit is still required.
Additional High-piled design includes information such as commodity clearance between top of storage; fire sprinkler head locations; aisle clearances; location and classification of commodities; type of fire suppression and fire detection systems, etc.

To successfully make it through the permitting process one must have a good understand of the following:

- Safety Requirements

Obtaining building permits is a time consuming process which can easlily take up to 4-8 weeks. With the experience and knowledge of designing and building storage solutions, C&SS would like to form a partnership with companies to effectively reach their goals of material handling.

Moving Pallet Rack Systems

Moving pallet rack systems requires us to compare your existing system to your current needs. In many cases we will move your existing pallet rack system into your new facility without any changes. When we evaluate your new storage space and material handling needs, we may find that your old warehouse pallet racks are not going to take full advantage of the new space. Sometimes moving pallet rack systems into a new space does not work.
