Calculating the Height of Each Post

Start by calculating the spacing between the center of two adjacent shelves:

  1. Measure the minimum length of clear vertical opening that is required for each shelf.
  2. Add 1.25″ (the length of the shelf profile).
  3. Round up to the closest 1.5″ increment if the measurement isn’t exact.

Next, calculate the minimum height for each post:

  1. Multiply the required number of shelves by the distance between each shelf’s center point.
  2. Add 4″ to account for the openings of the bottom shelf and the first shelf’s profile. If you want to place the first shelf nearer to the ground, you can add 1″ or 2.5″.

Here’s an example using 7 shelves and 6 openings:

If the clear vertical opening for each shelf is 11.75″, then the spacing between the centers is 13.5″. The post height required for this unit would be 85″.
